A ‘Super Bowl’ in June? For Those Curious to Know Christ, the Answer is, ‘Yes!’

This Sunday in Glendale, Arizona, tens of thousands of people are expected to attend what Greg Laurie has referred to as the “Super Bowl of evangelism.” Many more will be watching via television.

The annual event is part of the Harvest America revival, hosted by Harvest Crusades. Laurie is its senior pastor, as well as senior pastor for Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California. The event will feature a number of well-known Christian musicians, as well as a Gospel message from the 64-year-old Laurie.

Billed as “the nation’s largest one-day evangelistic outreach,” the event will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium, beginning around 4:30 p.m. and livestreamed online, as well as telecasted on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Featured performers include “The Voice” star Brennley Brown, “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks, as well as other Christian bands such as MercyMe and NEEDTOBREATHE. Phil Wickham and Christian rapper Trip Lee are also scheduled to perform. The focus of the event will feature a sermon by Laurie, who will give a call to profess faith in Christ.

In 2016 Harvest America hosted an event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and was attended by over 82,000 people; about 180,000 watched the event from across the world. It is estimated that 25,000 people made professions of faith in Christ at the end of the night.

“Super Bowl Sunday, which for many now is a religious holiday, is a day when many of us watch a football game on TV,” said Laurie in an interview with The Christian Post. “It is something we all do across the country at the same time. There will be Super Bowl parties where you will invite people over to your home and then watch the game.”

He continued, “I use that as a picture to describe what Harvest America is. Yes, it happens to be in one place – Phoenix, Arizona – but the reason we call it Harvest America is there are thousands of host sites around the nation in places ranging from church sanctuaries to movie theaters to open fields to front rooms. We ask everyone simultaneously to watch this event as it happens live in Arizona.”

Laurie hopes that this event will help inspire in America a “spiritual awakening,” which he believes the country is in desperate need, after falling away from biblical values.

Please pray for America and those in attendance of watching the Harvest America event, that the lost will come to know Christ.
