Identity Released, Local Plumber Becomes a Hero for Shooting Church Attacker

A local man has just been named a hero for the brave actions he took against the church attacker in Texas. 26 innocent people were violently murdered when a lone attacker sprayed the church congregation with bullets as they worshipped on Sunday.

The murderer has been named as Devin Patrick Kelley. New reports also state that he possibly chose the small church in Texas because his ex-wife’s family attended it. After spraying the side of the building with bullets, Kelley burst into the church and continued shooting people.

It was then that a heroic local man took action. Stephen Willeford used his own gun to return fire on the shooter and ultimately save many lives.

“Our neighbor, he’s a very good guy, a very big Christian, he’s the nicest man on the planet, he’ll do anything for anyone around here. We’ve known him for years. He’s childhood friends with my dad. He … came with his [gun], and he took cover behind a car, and he shot the guy, I’m not sure if it was inside the church or the guy was coming out, but if it wasn’t for him, the guy wouldn’t have stopped. And then that’s when the guy got in his vehicle and drove off. And our friend shot through the window at him, trying to get him again, and then he apparently crashed down the road,” reported an eyewitness who knows Willeford.

Local police officials reported that the shooter actually dropped his weapon after being shot by Willeford. He then fled the scene and was killed. At this time, police are trying to determine if he took his own life or was shot to death by first responders.

What do you think about this? If it wouldn’t have been for this “good guy with a gun” taking action, do you think more people would have been killed? Let us know in the comments section of our Facebook page. Be sure to read our other news article on the shooting.
