The Jussie Smollett case quickly made headlines a few weeks ago after the Empire actor was allegedly assaulted. In the days and weeks following the incident, some major details came through the fog.

Police were able to identify the two "attackers" as acquaintances of Jussie who also worked with him on the Empire set. After further investigation, officials were able to piece together the missing links and determine that Jussie actually staged the attack himself.

He reportedly paid the men $3,500 for their part in faking the assault. Police even believe he harmed himself so that it looked like he was actually assaulted. As they continued their investigation, Smollett revealed his motive was connected to his salary on the show.

Now, the executives for the Empire series are speaking out. They are not believing his side of the story and feel that his motive wasn't about the money.

"Empire production sources tell TMZ ... none of the brass -- producers or EPs -- heard even a whisper from Jussie grousing he was underpaid. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Jussie staged the 'attack' to raise his profile and get more per episode," according to reports.

"Our sources say, if Jussie was upset about his salary, he kept it to himself. He was in the middle of a long-term contract and the executives, who are in a position to bust the deal or sweeten the pot, say neither Jussie nor his reps ever asked," wrote TMZ.

Jussie was making $125,000 per episode. His salary was right on par with some of his co-workers, including some of the stars of the show. Some people believe his true motive was his musical career and becoming a household name and famous. Some speculate that is why he pulled this fake attack. He may he believed it would help him as a musician.

"We're told Jussie's main focus recently was the release of new music. He was upset his first album didn't do well and was stressed out over the debuts of his new songs and music videos," wrote TMZ.

Time will tell if more details come to light. One thing is definitely clear though: his career is almost certainly over in the entertainment industry.
