A professional-abortion Notre Dame professor is suing the coed newspaper that reported on her inflammatory abortion remarks, claiming that the reporting subjected her to harassment. The coed newspaper says her claims are “completely false.”
Notre Dame Professor Tamara Kay takes difficulty with two tales from The Rover, a conservative-leaning newspaper run by college students on the Catholic college. Certainly one of these tales, dated September 2022, highlighted that Kay was providing over social media to assist college students get abortions and reported that she falsely claimed her pro-abortion “positions are completely aligned” with the Catholic Church.
The opposite, dated March 2023, covered Kay’s presentation to Notre Dame Faculty Democrats.
The Rover reported that Kay marketed her willingness to help in abortions on her workplace door with an indication studying: “It is a SAFE SPACE to get assist and data on ALL Healthcare points and entry—confidentially with care and compassion.”
Kay’s actions adopted the Indiana Legislature’s September 2022 passage of a law banning abortion statewide. Notre Dame is a non-public Catholic college, and the Catholic Church has explicitly declared abortion a criminal offense in opposition to human life.
Kay’s Might 2023 grievance particularly names W. Joseph DeReuil, the previous editor-in-chief of The Rover and the writer of the September 2022 article, and Luke Thompson, the politics editor of The Rover final 12 months and the writer of a March 2023 article.
She claims that The Rover articles contained false and defamatory info and that the publication’s reporters by no means spoke along with her — outright stating that “she by no means stated” a number of quotes The Rover attributed to her.
Neither Kay nor Notre Dame instantly responded to requests for remark from The Every day Sign.
And DeReuil says the whole lot The Rover printed was and is true.

“By means of all of complaints Professor Kay has supplied in opposition to the Rover, and even within the legislation swimsuit itself, it has remained unclear to me what she is objecting to in my presentation of the information of her abortion advocacy,” Joe DeReuil instructed The Every day Sign. “The Rover’s reporting merely introduced these information to the eye of the pro-life elements of the Notre Dame group.”
“I’m not in any respect fearful about the results of the lawsuit,” he added. “I do know that the whole lot we printed is true and written in good religion, so I firmly consider that the lawsuit can solely be determined in favor of the Irish Rover.”
And in a workers piece titled “We Will Not Be Silenced,” The Rover pushed again on Kay and her claims.
“Professor Kay’s allegations in opposition to the Rover are completely false,” The Rover stated. “And her lawsuit displays solely the most recent stage in a tenured professor’s baseless public marketing campaign in opposition to undergraduates at her personal college who had the temerity to publish correct tales about her very public abortion advocacy.”
Wallace White, a former intern at The Heritage Basis and The Every day Sign, contributed to this report.
