The weather outside is frightful. As much of the nation experiences colder-than-normal temperatures, some people have ventured into the frigid elements to capture just how bone-chilling the end of 2017 and the start of 2018 has been.

Niagara Falls created quite the chandelier in New York and Ontario this weekend. The pictures tourists captured are absolutely surreal.


This guy in Sioux Falls, South Dakota decided to see what would happen if he soaked his T-shirt in hot water before hanging it out to dry. The result was incredible, but viewers were disappointed that he didn’t shatter it with a hammer.


The U.S. Army posted a picture of a cold soldier that looked like someone out of “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.”


In Kansas City, Kansas, bubbles were freezing solid despite the breeze, much to the amazement of onlooking youngsters.


Chicago saw a New Year’s Day record with a high of only 1 degree. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the city is expecting wind chills as low as -29 degrees this week.


Off the coast of Massachusetts, sharks are reportedly dying “due to cold shock” in the frigid waters.


Minnesota, on the other hand, is used to being ridiculously cold. And cracking jokes about it.


In the much more temperature Southeast, the below-freezing temperatures in Atlanta turned a fountain into the shape of a beautiful winter wedding cake.


In Des Moines, Iowa, it was so cold it wasn’t even funny.
