Butter is one of the most common cooking staples across America. While it is often used for consumption, there are many other uses that butter is good for. Since it is advised to consume butter sparingly, these other tips and tricks could be the perfect solution to the leftover butter in your pantry.
1. Silence Squeaking Doors
While it is most common to use WD-40, butter can be used to prevent squeaking doors as well. Simply rub some butter on the door hinge. You should hear a noticeable difference in how much (or little) the door squeaks!
2. Reduce Snow Shoveling Time
Shoveling snow is one of the most time-consuming winter chores! However, if you rub butter on both sides of the shovel, it will drastically reduce shovel time. By greasing up both sides, it will prevent snow from sticking to the shovel when you toss it aside.
3. Prevent Bruising and Scars
When you feel a bruise coming on, rub some butter on the affected area. The phosphates in the butter will help to prevent bruising. Additionally, the protein in butter will help with minor scars and burns.
4. Eliminate Odor
After you cook something that has a pungent flavor, your hands are often left with an unfavorable scent. In order to get rid of the smell of fish, ginger, or any other strong smell, simply rub butter on your hands and then scrub them clean with soap and warm water.
5. Reduce Stickiness
If you have glue, sap, or any other kind of sticky substance on your hands or arms, this is an easy remedy. Rub butter on the sticky area before washing with soap and water. The natural oils in the butter will help remove the substance!
6. Increase Shelf Life
If you have leftovers that you are worried about spoiling, try using this trick before throwing them out. If you apply a light coat of butter to the edges of hard cheese, it will prevent molding. This trick helps in preserving onions as well. Rub butter on the cut area, wrap the onion in aluminum, foil, and then refrigerate!
7. Prevent Boiling Water from Spilling
Put a teaspoon of butter in your water on the pot on the stove to prevent it from boiling over. It's that simple!
