Christian Risner, a 3-year-old boy from Lebo, Kansas, made nationwide headlines last month for his memorable “Christmas in September” celebration. This young boy captivated many with his Christmas spirit and love and joy for the winter holiday season—it was his favorite time of the year.

Christian’s family, along with several others from their hometown, celebrated Christmas early in 2017 because doctors told the child's family that he would not make it through the end of the year. Sadly, they were correct.

3-year-old Christian, who recently graduated from preschool, was diagnosed with rhabdoid kidney cancer last year. In September, Fox reported that he had been undergoing treatment and was almost finished. Tragically, they discovered that the cancer had spread to his lungs, making it impossible for him to survive.

His only desire before he went to Heaven was to be able to celebrate Christmas one last time. The community immediately came together to contribute to his wish.

Christmas lights were placed on houses in the area, businesses donated towards an auction so Christian and his family could travel in a carriage to see the different lights, members of the community shared a holiday meal, and Santa Claus even paid a special early visit.

Christian died on Saturday, October 7th, shortly after the beautiful Christmas celebration.

The family made the sad announcement via social media on their “Prayers for Christian” page, where they also asked for prayers and shared bible verse Matthew 19:14.

The post, accompanied by a heartwrenching photo of a family member holding Christian's hand, stated, “Christian went peacefully with the Lord this morning. Please pray for our family as we prepare for final arrangements and as we figure out how to resume our everyday functions.”

His obituary revealed that his funeral service will be held this Saturday, October 14th. The young boy’s friends, family, and loved ones will attend the service in “Christian’s Crew" or superhero attire. Media will not be welcomed at the service out of respect for the family.

He will be greatly missed by his parents, siblings, and grandparents, as well as those who knew his story. Please keep his family in your prayers today. Thank you!

Father, may you comfort Christian Risner’s family—please provide them with peace, knowing their sweet boy is with you. Wrap them in your love, draw them closer to you during this difficult time, and use Christian’s story to touch the hearts of your people. We thank you for your faithfulness and goodness. Amen.
