A tragic story has emerged on Thursday morning about a young fitness guru from Pennsylvania. His family and fiancée are mourning the death of 21-year-old Kyler Baughman, who passed away at the end of December after contracting a case of influenza.

According to NY Daily News, the bodybuilder who was hoping to one day become a personal trainer had come home from college for the holidays with the flu. His parents noted that he did not look like himself, though they just attributed it to a common sickness.

His mother said, “We saw him the 23rd (of December) for our family Christmas get-together and we noticed he wasn’t feeling well. He looked rundown and had a bit of a snotty nose.”

While Baughman looked sick, no one reportedly thought that it was too severe, especially given that the young man was so active and healthy. After Christmas festivities, Baughman even returned to his job on December 26. Shortly after he got to work, however, his boss sent him home.

Baughman’s fiancée, Olivia Marcanio, said, “He kinda just laid down and went about his day and that was the day he was coughing and said his chest hurt, he had a mild cough.”

Baughman’s mother noted that no one knew the gravity of the situation. She said that even Kyler did not understand what was going on and only thought he needed to “rest a little bit” in order to improve.

Sadly, two days later, the college student had to be taken to Westmoreland County emergency room after worsening. Later, he was flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh for further treatment. Only hours later, the young man passed away.

Kyler’s mother said that the official cause of death was “organ failure due to septic shock caused by influenza.” She added that it “doesn’t seem real.”

Now, Kyler’s parents are hoping that this story can help save someone else from the heartbreak that they are currently enduring. His father said that he hopes the memory of his son will live on.

He said, “Try and know your body. Don’t let things go. Whenever you have a fever for multiple days, don’t let it go, get it taken care of.”

Please be praying for Kyler’s family and fiancée during this tragic time in their lives. Additionally, please take his family’s advice and take proper health cautions during this particularly bad flu season. In other breaking news, a young star athlete was just diagnosed with leukemia and has to postpone his promising future as a professional athlete. Please be praying as he begins treatment.
