On Thursday, December 21st, a white SUV plowed through a crowd of innocent pedestrians amid the holiday season. While people were out Christmas shopping, they were struck by a “deliberate act of evil.”

The attack occurred in Melbourne, Australia. According to local authorities, it is not believed to be a terrorist attack, but it was not an accident.

Sky News reported that the two suspects are now in custody. The 32-year-old Afghan driver is known to police by previous assault incidents and has a history of drugs and mental illness.

The 24-year-old passenger, who was recording the attack, was found with three knives in his bag. However, Fox stated that police don’t believe the knives were related to the SUV attack.

Bystanders said there were “people flying everywhere.” The motivation for the attack remains unknown.

As of Thursday morning, 19 people have been injured with 4 of those in critical condition—one of the victims being a young child. According to ABC News, the child is a 4-year-old girl with a serious head injury.
