“I want him to know that wherever he is—whatever happened—we are here, and we have so much love and support. We just need him,” pleaded 26-year-old Ashlee Swenson in an Instagram video made to encourage people to look for her husband, Paul. Ashlee and Paul have a seven-month-old little girl, Poppy, together.
Ashlee’s husband, Paul, disappeared on July 27th from their American Fork, Utah, home under very suspicious circumstances. The thirty-year-old, who had complained of heart pains and had gone in to get himself checked out, was on his way to another doctor’s appointment when he simply disappeared.
According to the missing flyer, the next morning officers found his BMW abandoned in a school parking lot. Inside the car, they found items that the family says don’t belong to Paul.
"It just brings up the question: Was somebody with him when they left the vehicle or did someone steal the vehicle?" said Sgt Christensen of the American Forks Police Department.
While the police aren’t saying there was foul play involved, they’re still concerned about Paul. He has the endangered status, the American Fork Police Department told the Daily Herald, because his wife said she thought he may have been having a “mental health or medical episode” at the time of his disappearance.
“Honestly, the thing we’re worried about is that he is not in the right state of mind to know where he is or what he’s doing. That’s why we’re continuing the strong effort,” Sgt. Christensen of the American Fork Police Department said.
Family and friends of Swenson have started a Facebook group called Find Paul Swenson that has over twenty-one thousand members. They have also started a GoFundMe page to help fund the search efforts, which cost approximately $2,300 per day. As of Thursday afternoon, they had raised over $15,000.
It’s unclear why Paul has disappeared. His friends and family say that he was acting oddly in the days leading up to his disappearance, but they don’t think it’s in character for him to leave his baby behind.
On her blog, Ashlee revealed in June that Paul had an affair, but she decided to stay with him. She wrote on her blog that for her, staying with Paul was the correct decision.
“Staying takes extreme courage and vulnerability. It also takes work, a lot of work that has to come from both partners. I have watched Paul throughout this process and if you know him…. you know, he is an entirely different person …and for the better. And I can say our marriage is better than it’s ever been.. ever!”
It’s unclear if the affair is related to his disappearance. No matter the reason, this woman, and her beautiful little girl deserve closure at the very least. Please pray for this family.
