Chloe Grace Moretz is a loud and vocal defender of Hillary Clinton, who she campaigned for during the 2016 election. Moretz is among a handful of celebrities to campaign for Hillary Clinton, including Meryl Streep, Lena Dunham, and Katy Perry.
Now that Clinton has lost the election, Mortez is not backing down. To the contrary, the young actress recently used her platform to publicly criticize President Trump, who she believes is a “mockery” of the American system. For young women, Moretz believes that years of women’s social progress has been set back by Donald Trump's presidency.
In an interview with Variety, Moretz named a few of her favorite female role models, which included Hillary Clinton, Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Watson, and Zoey Deutch. But when it came time for her to express her opinion about the women surrounding Donald Trump, she didn’t have many positive remarks.
In fact, Moretz claimed that young women deserve better role models.
“I think young women deserve better role models,” she remarked. “And I hate to see the way that Melania is treated – I think that she is treated very badly, and I hate to see a woman who is not respected by her own husband, and a daughter who doesn’t see that she is disrespected by her father. I think that’s really sad. I think they’re also products of mental manipulation. You can’t see the forest through the trees when you’re that deep.”
During the interview, Moretz remarked that she sometimes wishes Hillary Clinton will run again for president. The young actress is of the opinion that a Clinton presidency would usher in an era of advancement for women’s rights. However, Trump’s presidency – including the influence of Melania and Ivanka – represents a setback for women in the eyes of Moretz.
“In my dream of dreams, I’m still like, ‘Hillary, maybe you’ll run again,’” she remarked.
Moretz isn't the only feminist actress making headlines today. In fact, another feminist actress tried to get a man fired for complimenting her. Read more about this here.
