Why is this not a hate crime?
That's the question a Georgia woman is asking after she and her daughter were beaten with her own American flag.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Dami Arno says she was talking to her 17-year-old daughter in the garage of their Lawrenceville, Georgia when the incident occurred.
Dami said, “A lady walked out of our woods in a full Burka, full attire, stares at us for a minute, then grabs my American flag off of my mailbox and charges towards us with it, just swinging it with all her might.“
What happened next gets even more terrifying. According to Dami, her daughter, and a witness, the alleged attacker — 30-year-old Aisha Ibrahim — didn't say a word as she started beating Dami with the flag, which was attached to a 4-foot-long PVC pipe. Dami's daughter was struck as well as she tried to intervene.
Dami's 14-year-old son held the attacker at gunpoint until a neighbor rushed in and held Aisha down until police arrived. Aisha was arrested and charged with battery. Dami vented her frustration with the charge on her Facebook page.
"A muslim women tore my flag pole down this morning and attacked me and my daughter with it after the fight she was charged with simple battery 2 counts nothing else no hate crime no destruction of property no criminal trespassing nothing," she wrote, along with a plea that the news media get the word out about her story.
A glance at her Facebook wall shows numerous past posts of American flags and memes supporting American troops, patriotism, and conservative values.
One of her most recent posts is of a meme that reads: "Mister Rogers didn't adequately prepare me for the people in my neighborhood."
