Willie and Korie: The "Super Scary" Risk For Kids Today

As a parent, you know there are so many risks to kids today. We may be able to vaccinate them from a lot of the major diseases of the previous century, but there are new dangers present to them that we didn't have to deal with before.

And Korie and Willie Robertson, parents to 5 kids and stars of the hit show "Duck Dynasty", say technology is one of them. "It's one of the biggest problems, I think, today. Parents not there, they're working, they're doing something, and they don't realize the technology. It's super scary," says Willie in this Christianity Today article.

Korie chimed in with Willie: "What are they learning? What are the messages that are being given to them about what's important in life? The people that they look up to that are supposedly in the spotlight and getting all the attention, are they people of value? Are they what you want to be when you grow up?"

So what's the solution? One thing Willie and Korie do is monitor the time spent on the internet and the shows and movies their kids watch. But they realize that kids are going to be out in the world, and they need to have the inner strength to handle it.

"We're not isolationists by any means," said Willie. "I went to a public school. I was exposed to a lot of things and you get strong and you learn how to function in the world. They're gonna be dumped into the world at 18 and have to deal with it in on their own, so we explain things and the key there is how we live our lives... and explain that it may not be best for us, but we're not gonna judge other people."

The Robertsons choose to focus on the positive in people, like the way they talk about the Kardashians, another famous TV family, to their kids: Willie shared, "We try to pull the positive things out of a family. Korie always says that the Kardashians, they always stick together, and that's like the Robertsons. They stick together with each other no matter what."
