Like a scene out of an action movie, a Nebraska sheriff's deputy Todd Volk found himself in the best position to intervene in a semitrailer barreling out of control with an unconscious driver at the wheel. Watch what happens next:
Deputies didn't know at first why the weaving semi wasn't stopping for them as it approached a bridge and a busy intersection, but according to KMTV, after Volk safely stopped the truck they discovered the driver was suffering from a diabetic episode. The driver is now OK.
Volk described what went through his head to KWBE: “As he came by, I could see the driver’s head slumped down and felt he was not conscious and it popped in my head that we need to get this vehicle stopped. At that point in time, the truck was traveling about 20 mph, I jumped back in my patrol vehicle, punched it and got up in front and jumped out and jumped up and grabbed the hand railing and the mirror on the side of the truck and hit the breaks."
Volk's boss, Madison County Sheriff Vern Hjorth, praised his deputy for risking his life to save others.
