On Tuesday, President Trump visited Puerto Rico to see the damage, speak to authorities, and hand out supplies. However, what he did while there has the internet going wild.
As he handed out supplies, he picked up a paper towel roll and tossed it to a person in the crowd. Puerto Ricans in the crowd didn’t seem upset—they even seemed to be enjoying it—but people on Twitter started to lose their minds as soon as the video was released.
Twitter positively erupted with angry liberals. They couldn’t exactly explain why this made them upset, but it definitely did.
The fine people of Twitter aren’t the only ones to be upset about Trump throwing paper towels. The mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulin Cruz, attacked him for it in an interview with Rachel Maddow on Tuesday night.
She raged against President Trump, who she dubbed the “miscommunicator-in-chief” last week, for his tossing of paper towels.
“In fact, this terrible and abominable view of him throwing paper towels and throwing provisions at people, it’s really—it does not embody the spirit of the American nation, you know,” she exclaimed. “That is not the land of the free and the home of the brave that the beacon of democracy that people have learned to look up to, you know.”
Cruz claimed that by lobbing paper towels into a crowd, President Trump was “insulting to the people of Puerto Rico.”
