President Trump has a new piece of advice for the mainstream media: Stop being so rude.
Writing on Twitter, the president said, “It is amazing how rude much of the media is to my very hard working representatives. Be nice, you will do much better!”
His tweet came after a string of interviews his top aide Kellyanne Conway did Monday morning regarding multiple Trump-related topics, including the possible wiretap surveillance of Trump Tower by the Obama administration during the presidential campaign.
Conway appeared on CNN, where a highly combative Chris Cuomo talked down to her like she was a kindergartener and kept speaking over her.
During that interview, Conway kept her cool and addressed how little respect Trump is given as president, saying, “Do you know what’s said about him? Do you think he’s actually covered the same way past presidents [were]? The level of disrespect for the president of the United States, and the way he is described by people — people’s whose approval rating are half of his, frankly — is really beyond the pale.”
On NBC’s “Today” show, Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie grilled Conway through condescending grins as they accused Trump of lying.
ABC’s George Stephanopoulos continued the barrage on “Good Morning America,” focusing on everything negative he could think of with Trump’s presidency and firing them at Conway one after another.
And those are the news hosts who were actually willing to interview her.
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski was much worse, declaring, “You might be wondering why I’m showing soundbites of Kellyanne Conway while I won’t have her on this show — absolutely will not have her live on this show…”
“That’s why my mom always told me to stay away from microwaves when they were on,” commented one female guest host, suggesting that Conway’s brain had been fried.
“I think that is true,” Brzezinksi agreed, “That was awful. She’s really…”
She trailed off, shaking her head. “It speaks for itself, America. C’mon, now. It’s really awful. It’s very, very sad what’s happening. I just want to stay as far away as possible from trying to engage from someone seems to have an audience of one who may not have the country’s best interest in mind.”
While Trump himself has been harsh towards the mainstream media, the way they constantly gang up on him and his aides continues to erode the American public’s faith in their abilities to report objectively.
