The best-selling Christian song of all time, MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine," is about to reach an even larger audience. An announcement was recently made that the story behind the song is being made into a Hollywood movie.
The song is reportedly the only Christian single that hit Double Platinum by RIAA. The author of the song, Bart Millard, has an amazing testimony and story behind the inspiration of the song.
Now, a movie will be based on Millard's life story. "I Can Only Imagine" will star Dennis Quaid, Cloris Leachman, Trace Adkins, and Broadway's J. Michael Finley.
The faith-based movie was acquired by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions and will be directed by Jon and Andrew Erwin. It is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2018.
According to Deadline, the date is similar to the 2017 release of "The Shack," which grossed $96.39 million worldwide. Lionsgate released a statement about their enthusiasm for the new faith-based film.
They said, "We are delighted to be working with the talented Erwin brothers, who have an incredible vision for both the film and the music. Coming on the heels of our faith-based box office hit, The Shack, I Can Only Imagine will touch audiences everywhere. We are very excited to bring this wonderful story to the big screen.”
Below is the official trailer for the new movie followed by the heart behind it.
We love seeing faith-based creative media, especially in Hollywood!
