Warning: Major Household Food Item May be Life-threatening, if Consumed

Due to a deviation in how the food was processed in a co-pack facility not directly owned or operated by the company, Bumble Bee has issued a voluntary recall of 31,579 cases of its canned Chunk Light tuna.

Because of the mishandling, reported ABC-affiliated news agency Wate.com, it is possible that contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens could have occurred, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed.

The cans were produced in February 2016 and were distributed nationally.

It affects 3 specific UPC codes: 8660000020, 8660000021, and 8660000736

No illnesses have yet been reported.

Bumble Bee is working closely with the FDA and the co-packer to remove the items from shelves.

The company urges consumers to throw away the recalled product.

Those looking for reimbursement or for more information can contact Bumble Bee at (888) 820-1947 between the hours of 9am and 6pm EST seven days a week.

Consumers can also visit the company website at www.bumblebee.com/recall-march-2016 .
