One of the most significant symbols of President-Elect Donald Trump’s path to the presidency has been his use of Twitter, and now he’s giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how he tweets and why he won’t stop.
According to the Daily Wire, Trump says what he writes on Twitter aren’t just off-the-cuff remarks, in spite of their unpolished appearance.
“I’m careful about [tweeting]; it’s very precise. Actually it’s very, very precise,” Trump explained.
One of the things that has surprised the president-elect during the campaign trail and after his victory is just how often he’s tweeted.
"I thought I’d do less of it,” he admitted, but then explained why it’s became a bulwark of his persona, saying, “I’m covered so dishonestly by the press — so dishonestly — that I can put out Twitter. And it’s not 140, it’s now 280. I can go bing bing bing.... and they put it on and as soon as I tweet it out.”
He said what’s really shocked him is how easily what he says becomes breaking news for the media.
“It comes out breaking news, we have breaking news — ya know,” he said. “It’s funny, if I did a press release and if I put it out, it wouldn’t get nearly — people would see it the following day — if I do a news conference, that’s a lot of work."
At the end of November, MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell actually admitted during an interview that the mainstream media despises Trump’s use of Twitter because it allows him to bypass all the filters they use to present his words to their audience.
Trump has just reached 20 million followers on Twitter, according to CNN. And that doesn’t include the many more millions of people who see what Trump tweets via the media’s reporting of it.
What do you think of this? Should he stop?
