In the last few days, reports have emerged about First Lady Melania’s opinion about her husband serving as the President of the United States. The original information was published by Vanity Fair, who had reportedly been in contact with a longtime friend of the Trumps.
According to the story, Melania never wanted her husband to win the presidential campaign. Additionally, she was not excited about her role as the First Lady.
The friend said, “This isn’t something she wanted and it isn’t something he ever thought he’d win. She didn’t want this come hell or high water. I don’t think she thought it was going to happen.”
Another acquaintance told the magazine that Melania knew 2016 would have been President Trump’s last shot at the presidency.
They said, “She was very clearly the one who said, ‘Either run or don’t run.’ She knew it was in his blood. He always wanted to run. She is the one who pushed him to run just by saying run or do not run. I don’t think she was ever too crazy about it.”
This particular report is not the first that has claimed that Melania is not interested in her role as the First Lady. Many articles have emerged claiming that she does not care about her job and that she wishes that her husband would not have gone after the presidency.
On Monday, First Lady Melania reacted to the harmful statements in the magazine.
A spokeswoman said, “Once again part of the liberal media, this time Vanity Fair, has written a story riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions. As a magazine tailored to women it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Mrs. Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as First Lady and a supportive wife and mother. As has been stated on the record many times before, she is honored by her role.”
Now, President Trump has taken to Twitter to defend his wife’s honor. He tweeted on Tuesday morning that Melania is the one who believed in him from the start. He said that Melania "loves" what she is doing and that she has been a huge source of encouragement from the beginning.
