Former San Francisco 49er’s quarterback Colin Kaepernick made nationwide headlines last year after he refused to stand for the national anthem during football games. His protesting in support of the Black Lives Matter movement quickly led to outrage by NFL fans for the quarterback not standing in support of his country.

As a result, Kaepernick was dropped by the 49ers and has yet to be picked up by another team. President Trump later weighed in on the controversy, stating that all players who kneel during the “Star Spangled Banner” should be fired. After Trump’s remarks, dozens of other NFL players joined the “Take a Knee” protests, which gradually became an anti-Trump movement.

One player, in particular, has been adamantly following Kaepernick’s footsteps—Marshawn Lynch from the Oakland Raiders. Lynch has continued to kneel before every game since coming out of retirement and joining Raider Nation.

While refusing to stand for our national anthem, Lynch recently stood for Mexico’s national anthem during their game against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Estadio Azteca.

Although he has not specifically confirmed that he is standing in protest, ESPN pointed out that he wore an “Everybody vs. Trump” shirt prior to their October 1st game against the Denver Broncos.

President Donald Trump responded to Lynch’s actions early Monday morning. Ultimately, the President called for him to be suspended for the rest of the season.

As of 10:30 AM ET, Lynch has not commented on Trump’s response. This incident comes shortly after Lynch was ejected from an October game against the Kansas City Chiefs for shoving an official.

Lynch differs greatly from their star quarterback Derek Carr, who is an outspoken conservative Christian and stands proudly for the national anthem every game. He turned heads earlier this year when he was seen praying during the anthem, while the majority of his team was sitting down. Despite his differences with Lynch, Carr has previously spoken highly of his fellow teammate after he joined the Raiders this season.
