Donald Trump has refused Mitt Romney’s attacks to release his tax records. During the Republican debate Thursday night on CNN, Trump made it clear that he will not release his tax records because he is currently being audited by the IRS.
Trump said that he has been audited by the IRS for the past 10 to 12 years and that he won’t release his records because he is still currently under audit. According to the Christian Post, he is being audited because he believes in God.
“The one problem I have is I’m always audited by the IRS, which I think is very unfair,” Trump said after the debate. “It may be because of religion, it may be because of something else.”
When Trump was asked to clarify his remarks about religion, he answered, “Well, maybe because of the fact that I am a strong Christian and I feel strongly about it and maybe there is a bias.”
Trump referred to the proven fact that the IRS, under the Obama administration, had targeted conservative groups.
If Trump were being targeted only for his religion, it wouldn’t explain the audits during the years preceding Obama’s presidency.
