Recently, Trump administration announced that revoking the $500 million in annual funding to Planned Parenthood would be involved in the Obamacare repeal.
This consideration is in large part to help reduce the number of abortions performed and prevent taxpayers from funding the more than 300,000 abortions that happen at Planned Parenthood annually (2014).
Reactions of Planned Parenthood supporters quickly escalated and began protesting and encouraging people to speak out, so funding could be maintained.
An executive of the organization mentioned “Let’s be clear: Federal funds already do not pay for abortions.”
On Monday, Trump responded with a statement:
“As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women’s health and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of nonabortion services such as cancer screenings. Polling shows the majority of Americans oppose public funding for abortion, even those who identify as pro-choice. There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women’s health, while not providing abortion services.”
If women’s health organization, like Planned Parenthood, get rid of abortion services, it is a possibility for them to keep federal funding.
How do you think Planned Parenthood will react to this?
