After Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast in August, devastation has fallen across the people of our country with the continuously rising death toll and increase in property damages in Houston. The death toll has risen to over 40 and is expected to get even higher.
In the midst of trouble, our nation has come together in prayer and by giving to those affected by the aftermath. Since then, many well-known names have stepped up to donate $1 million to Hurricane Harvey victims including, Sandra Bullock, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Degeneres, Tyler Perry, and President Donald Trump.
After donating $1 million of his own money, visiting Texas personally earlier this week, and traveling back to Texas on Saturday, Trump took another bold action for the hurricane victims— a bold action of faith. The news came from the White House on Friday afternoon.
Trump stated in a room with “faith based” people, “Individuals of every background are striving for the same goal— to aid and comfort people facing devastating losses. As Americans, we know that no challenge is too great for us to overcome.”
He continued, “We invite all Americans to join us as we continue to pray for those who have lost family members and friends and for those who are suffering from this great crisis.”
To conclude, Trump signed in a “Day of Prayer,” which will take place on Sunday. Trump pointed out that it has been a long time since a day reserved for prayer has happened in our nation.
