On Monday, news emerged about the death of 27-year-old Kim Jonghyun. Kim was the lead singer of the popular K-pop boy band, SHINee, who were recognized as upcoming stars in the global music scene.

The circumstances surrounding the singer's death were peculiar. His sister went into his rented apartment in Seoul, South Korea, in the late afternoon.

She found her brother unconscious and immediately called the local authorities. The first responders got Kim into an ambulance and rushed him to a local hospital.

The singer went into cardiac arrest and was given emergency CPR, but unfortunately never recovered. Immediately after the incident, Kim's sister said that she believed it was a case of suicide.

The investigators of the case saw that there were charcoal briquettes burning in a frying pan in the apartment. They suspect that the actual cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.

Jonghyun's sister said that she had received a suspicious text from her brother earlier in the day which is why she went to his apartment in the first place. It said, "I've had a hard time. Please let me go and say that I did a good job. This is my last goodbye."

On Tuesday, another eerie message emerged on social media. A friend of the SHINee singer said that she had been given a final letter by Jonghyun.

The letter said, "I'm broken from the inside. The depression that has slowly nibbled me away has now devoured me, and I couldn't overcome it. I thought being a doctor was so easy when blaming it on my character in a quiet voice. It's amazing that it hurts this much. No one alive is more tormented nor weaker than myself."

"Becoming famous was probably not my life," he continued. "They tell me that's why I'm having a hard time...Why did I choose that? It's funny that I'm able to endure this much."

At the end of the letter, Kim said, "Tell me this is enough, that I did well. Even if you can't smile, don't send me off blaming me. You did well, you did good. Goodbye."

The singer's memorial service has already begun in South Korea at the Asan Medical Center. While the preliminary reports suggest suicide, it has not been 100% confirmed at this time.

Please be praying for the young man's family and friends as they walk through this difficult loss. Additionally, be praying for those experiencing depression during this holiday season.
