Over the weekend, a tragedy occurred in the lives of San Fransisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and his wife. The two announced that they lost their son.
The couple announced their pregnancy in September and the baby boy was due in 2018. Sadly, the couple announced that they lost their baby after complications. Morgan delivered stillborn early Sunday morning.
In an Instagram post, Goodwin wrote, "I just wanna thank those who've genuinely prayed for [Morgan] and myself through out this pregnancy. Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, and emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family."
Even with the heartbreaking loss, Goodwin played in Sunday night's football game. While on the field, he had an emotional moment in prayer surrounded by other players.
Now, 24-year-old Morgan Goodwin has opened up to People about their heartbreaking loss. She talked about the final moments with her son.
She said, "We cried. It was a hard thing to take in. This hurts because I was 19 weeks, I was almost halfway there."
Goodwin said that they had planned on naming their son Marquise Jr., and he was delivered stillborn at 3:52 a.m. Morgan said she had been experiencing health complications for a couple of weeks and that hours before the birth, she was rushed to the hospital.
About holding her stillborn son, she said, "I felt joy in holding my baby even though it was a sad moment. I was so amazed. His eyes were still shut at this point, but the hands, the feet. He looked exactly like his daddy."
She continued, "I was looking forward to having someone to call our own- our own creation. I feel I was placed in this world to be a mother, and I want to be a mother. I want to be a mother to four kids, five. I want a lot of children so this hurts."
Morgan then said that Marquise was not wanting to play in his NFL game. However, she told him that he needed to go. Marquise ended up making one of the biggest plays of the year at the game.
Morgan said, "It was very, very emotional watching him out there. Seeing him score the touchdown and watching him get emotional after the game. I was crying. It was an amazing moment, but it was also a very sad moment."
Morgan said that immediately after the game, Marquise returned to the hospital to be by her side. She said that the two of them have not given up on their dream of having children in the future.
