16 service members are now presumed dead after their refueling plane crashed on Monday. It happened north of Jackson, Mississippi.
The aircraft had taken off from the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina and was traveling over Mississippi. It was at that time the plane went missing from radar.
Officials contacted the Marine Corps over the disappearance and it was soon discovered the plane had crashed. At this time, an investigation has begun to look for the cause of the tragedy.
Military officials have declined to release the identities of the 16 killed service members. They are waiting to notify the families of the individuals before making that public information.
Crews are still working the debris field searching for bodies. At this time, it is a massive task and they have yet to recover everything related to the crash.
