A breaking news story has rocked Washington D.C. on Monday morning after a major name in the political world was indicted by a federal grand jury. The former Trump campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, has turned himself into the FBI.
According to multiple reports, Manafort has been indicted on multiple issues. The counts include conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, the unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign banks and financial accounts, according to Fox News.
Manafort was also indicted along with his former business associate, Rick Gates. The two men knew they were the subject of the investigation and willingly surrendered to the FBI Monday morning.
“Manafort used his hidden overseas wealth to enjoy a lavish lifestyle in the United States without paying taxes on that income,” the indictment reads.
“As part of the scheme, Manafort and Gates repeatedly provided false information to financial bookkeepers, tax accountants, and legal counsel, among others,” the indictment read.
Manafort has been described as a major political player in Washington D.C. and the world. He is mostly known for his web of connections and dealings while working as a lobbyist.
Some have questioned his connections to the Russians. Liberal news stations were quick to try and connect the dots between Manafort and the Trump administration. The New York Times revealed in July that Mr. Manafort and others close to Mr. Trump met with Russians last year, on the promise of receiving damaging political information about Mrs. Clinton.
At this time, the portend that not mentioned the indictment of his former campaign chairman. There has been no major information to connect President trump to the Russian government in a form of collusion.
