Outspoken Christian athlete and former NFL player Tim Tebow sent a clear message to young athletes at an Athlete of the Year awards ceremony in Greenville, South Carolina: Don't let being an athlete be too important in your life.
According to Greenville Online, guest speaker Tebow told the mixed secular and religious crowd, “Focus on who you can be, and allow the platform that sports gives you to impact other people. You are changing other people’s lives for better or worse, every day. Be bigger than sports. Don’t just be an athlete — be more than an athlete.”
The college football analyst emphasized the fleeting nature of an athletic career, saying, “You only have so many games, so many opportunities to win a championship. Your career is short, but your life is going to be a lot longer."
“I’ve been fortunate to be part of championships," he added. "They don’t last forever, but what you do for other people will. That’s what real success come from.”
