After proclaiming earlier today that he was going to stay in the race of presidential nomination even if he lost Florida, Marco Rubio has just ended his campaign...after losing Florida.
His earlier announcement that he would stay in the race would not have made Ted Cruz happier as the two have been battling over some of the same voters. But according to The New York Times, Rubio ended his bid tonight after finishing a distant second to Donald Trump in Florida.
With 99% of the votes counted as of midnight eastern time, Trump had won Florida with 46% of the votes. Rubio received 27%, Cruz got 17%, and John Kasich got 7%.
Whether Rubio's departure is too late to help Cruz beat Trump in the delegate race is yet to be seen.
