Hollywood star and proclaimed atheist/agnostic, Brad Pitt, has opened up to GQ Style magazine about his religious upbringing. While many people may know his stance on faith and religion now, they may not know that he actually grew up with a Christian upbringing.
Pitt grew up attending church and in a Christian home, although he walked away from the faith at an early age.
"We grew up in First Baptist, which is the cleaner, stricter, by-the-book Christianity," he shared with the magazine.
"Then, when I was in high school, my folks jumped to a more charismatic movement, which got into speaking in tongues and raising your hands." Pitt added.
Pitt seems to associate the church with nothing more than rules and regulations rather than the unending love that Christ has for His church and for His children.
"I never understood growing up with Christianity—don't do this, don't do that—it's all about don'ts," he said.
Although those "rules" are there for no other reason than to keep God's beloved on the right path, Pitt has his personal beliefs about life after death. "I don't think anyone really knows. You'll either find out or not when you get there, and until then there's no point in thinking about it," he says.
Pitt has most recently gone through a very public divorce from Angelina Jolie, who also has a different view on faith, "We're not alone in the world. I don't know if there's a name for that – religion or faith – just that there's something greater than all of us, and it's uniting and beautiful,", Jolie said.
