Being on the debate stage is the quickest way for a presidential candidate and their campaign to reach millions of people across the country. Another way to grab the attention of millions of people is to publicly boycott the high profile event a few days beforehand.
That is just what Rand Paul is doing. After being relegated to the undercard debate, which would limit his exposure, Rand decided to not participate in debate. “I won’t participate in anything that’s not first tier,” Rand told CNN, “because we have a first tier campaign.”
According to CNN, Rand just narrowly missed the cutoff for the main debate stage. The candidates that will be on the main debate stage are Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Donald Trump, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, and John Kasich.
Rand would have been on the undercard debate alongside Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and Rick Santorum.
