Since Donald Trump became the president of the United States, many people who thought they could never run for office are now voicing their desires to give it a try. Recently, celebrities have hoped their fame could be used as a leg up when vying for a position in public office.
The latest celebrity to express interest in the political arena is reality T.V. star and Olympic gold medalist, Caitlyn Jenner. According to ABC News, Jenner shared her plans to run for the Senate in California with the "Cats Roundtable" radio show on 970 AM.
“I have considered it,” Jenner said. “I like the political side of it. If there’s one thing — I work very closely with the American Unity Fund — that their sole purpose, their mission statement is to get the Republican party to do a better job with all LGBT issues.”
Jenner, a Republican, went on to say, “Over the next six months or so I’ve got to figure out where I can do a better job. Can I do a better job from the outside? Working the perimeter of the political scene? Or, are you better off from the inside? And we are in the process of determining that. And yeah, I would look for a senatorial run.”
Kid Rock is another celebrity with recent outspoken plans to run for office. The singer has said he will be running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan.
Although Kid Rock has not filed with the Federal Election Committee, he has said on social media that he will be making an announcement soon about his plans.
It was thought that in order to be successful in politics it required experience, however, celebrities from Oprah to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson have spoken out about running for office. President Trump has shown that previous political experience is not always necessary in order to do a great job.
