If you’ve ever had or attended a birthday party filled with copious amounts of pizza, soda, arcade games, and other attractions, you’ve probably been to Chuck E Cheese’s. If you’ve been to a party in this well-known, kid-friendly restaurant, you’ve also most likely seen a band of singing robots that double as giant, furry animals.
Now, Chuck E. Cheese’s is announcing the end of an era. The band that was loved by some and feared by others is retiring.
According to Today, the restaurant announced a massive remodel which includes updated interior design and a more “modern experience.” It also includes the dissolution of the animatronics band.
The band included the characters Mr. Munch, Jasper T. Jowels, and Chuck E. Cheese himself. Even though the band will not be part of the restaurant anymore, the characters will still remain part of the brand.
While nostalgia begins setting in when a childhood favorite becomes obsolete, the company noted that this dissolution was a long time coming. Chuck E. Cheese’s chief executive officer, Tom Leverton, commented on the situation.
He said, “The kids stopped looking at the animatronics years and years ago. They would wait for the live Chuck E. to come out.”
Leverton said that four locations will be the first to be remodeled. Instead of featuring the animatronic band, the new remodel will feature a dance floor area where kids can interact with a live Chuck- a real human in a costume.
He said, “As we move forward, we believe our live Chuck E. Experience provides the best entertainment value for kids, who have higher expectations of realism and special effects. This hourly interactive experience, in which Chuck E. Dances and poses for photos with the children, has become the iconic experience for kids today, now strengthened with a new light-up dance floor and contemporary music.”
