Texas School Reacts To 'Gum' Scare

Lehman High School in Kyle, Texas had a bit of a gun scare Wednesday.

According to KVUE-TV, someone misheard a student ask for a gun when they were actually just asking for chewing gum.

The school immediately investigated the incident as a possible weapon on campus but was able to determine the truth before a campus lock down was needed.

School officials sent a letter to parents explaining that, "The safety of our students is always foremost on our list of priorities, so we take these concerns seriously. We continue to encourage students to report anything they see or hear that causes them concern. Fortunately, in this case, it was a misunderstanding and there was no threat to our school or need to conduct a lock down."

With recent school shootings, are people getting too jumpy or do you think the person reporting this incident was being prudent?
