A common sense approach to school safety has taken effect in Claude, Texas. The school board has recently approved conceal carry on campus for the staff of the schools.
“Any employee at Claude ISD, any teacher, I feel firmly they would give their life to save a child,” Superintendent Jeff Byrd Said. “Our job is to make sure the kids are safe, that they are comfortable and secure.”
One aspect of the student’s safety is having the means to protect the students if a madman were to attack the school, and the school staff now have the means. Another aspect of keeping the students safe is warning those that would seek to harm students. According to newschannel10.com, a new prominently placed sign has been put in place to inform would be criminals that they will be met with force.
The signs placed outside of Claude’s school buildings read: “ATTENTION: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE STAFF AT CLAUDE ISD IS ARMED AND MAY USE WHATEVER FORCE NECESSARY TO PROTECT OUR STUDENTS.”
“Statistics will show that most of the shootings have occurred in public schools have been somewhat of a copycat situation,” Byrd explained. “The goal of the perpetrators is to out-do the last shooting and statistics have shown people with warning signs are being proactive and preventative. The only reason the sign is there is to prevent somebody from coming in.”
What do you think about the new signs?
