Surprise Candidate Drops Out Of The Presidential Race

In a shocking turn of events on Wednesday, Senator Rand Paul announced that he would be suspending his campaign for president.

Rand had been struggling to gain momentum in the Republican race.  In the Iowa caucuses he placed 5th with only 4.5% of the vote.

The move is surprising because New Hampshire’s primary is scheduled to be held next week, a state in which his father Ron Paul did very well in during the 2012 election.

Rand pulling out of the presidential race may have been a shrewd move by the Senator as he was considered a long shot to win the Republican nomination.  While he spent time campaigning for president, a wealthy Democratic challenger has emerged in Kentucky in the race for his Senate seat.

Rand will now focus his efforts on his Senate re-election.
