A mystical martial artist and environmental agent, played by action hero Steven Seagal, takes on a big, bad oil company who is destroying Eskimo communities in pursuit of black gold. The 1994 thriller was a flop, but it’s back in the news on Friday after an actress on the set accused Seagal of raping her.
According to Fox News, Regina Simons says she was an 18-year-old extra in 1993 during the production of “On Deadly Ground.” Simons added she was a Mormon and a virgin at the time, according to Page Six.
Simons said the assault occurred when she was invited to Seagal’s home for a party, only to discover that she was the only guest.
“He took me into this room and then just closed the door and started kissing me,” she explained, before claiming that the movie star then undressed and raped her.
“People always talk about fight-or-flight. But no one talks about the freeze,” she recounted, adding that she was crying during the non-consensual incident but couldn’t escape because he was “three times” her size.
Simons said she told her Mormon bishop about the incident, which he confirms, but she decided to not go public. Despite not going public, she did file a police report.
She explained why, saying, “I wasn’t even allowed to date so for me it was a shameful thing. I was like, ‘Oh my God, how could this have happened?’ So, I blamed a lot of it on myself and tried to pretend it didn’t happen.”
Recently, another woman, Faviola Dadis, accused Seagal of groping her in his hotel room in 2002. She says his security guards weren’t going to let her escape until she started making a ruckus, trying to alert other people in the hotel. Dadis also filed a police report but didn’t go public until recently.
Hollywood exec Emily Smith, actress Jenny McCarthy, actress Portia de Rossi, and actress Julianna Margulies have all accused Seagal of sexual harassment. Simons’ accusation is the first one involving rape.
A representative for Seagal has not yet commented on inquiries about this newest accusation as of 7:07 p.m. Eastern. The Los Angeles Police Department is opening an investigation, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
