American soccer player Alex Morgan if often in the headlines for her athletic achievements. Last weekend, however, she got attention for causing chaos at Disney World.
Morgan is a forward for the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League and the United States women’s national soccer team. The 28-year-old has already won an Olympic gold medal and a FIFA Women’s World Cup championship on the field.
Additionally, Morgan was the youngest player on the national team for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where her team won silver. She is only one of two American women to ever score 20 goals and 20 collected assists in the same calendar year and has won the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
While her career has been impressive, the top-paid female soccer player was under hot water after her weekend excursion to Disney World. On Sunday, Morgan went with several of her friends to the Epcot Center.
While there, Morgan posted a photo with a group of friends. She captioned the photo, “Annual around the world in 8 hours. No big.”
According to E-News, shortly after 8 p.m., Morgan was at the United Kingdom pub in the Epcot Center when she got into a loud argument. She had reportedly been drinking too much for the park’s regulations.
Even after the argument, Morgan was seen “yelling” and “screaming,” and she “appeared to be highly impaired.” At one point, Morgan made a “loud verbal statement that she knows the Orlando Swat team.”
Deputies decided that she needed to be escorted out of the park. She was first taken to a conference room where she became “verbally aggressive” and “continued to be belligerent.”
The Orlando City SC told CNN that they are “aware of the situation” and waiting for official confirmation from the park or the police department. They said that their club would address the matter internally.
On Wednesday and after receiving a lot of backlash following the incident, Morgan issued an apology on her Twitter account.
She said, "I want to apologize for my actions that occurred over the weekend. I will learn from this make sure it does not happen again. #liveandlearn"
So far, no news has been given on how the soccer star will be reprimanded.
