The South Dakota Senate has just approved a bill that will undoubtedly cause an uproar as they buck heads with the Obama Administration.
According to the Argus Leader, a law that would ban transgender students from using school bathrooms of their "gender identity" instead of their biological sex is headed to the governor's desk. Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard will listen to recorded testimony before signing the bill but has previously expressed support of it.
The new law allows transgender students to submit a request to their district for use of separate facilities. The author of the bill, Republican Rep. Fred Deutsch, who feels the White House took on too much power with its Title IX regulations, drafted it to protect the privacy of both transgender and non-transgender students.
Some Republican senators have joined Democrats in opposing the bill, fearing accusations of discrimination and legal battles.
