After Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast in August, devastation has fallen across the nation with the continuously rising death toll and increase in property damages. More than 60 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses, and vehicles have been destroyed from the flooding and strong winds.

One of the most heart wrenching stories was the family of 6 who drowned in a white van while trying to flee the massive flooding. A man was attempting to drive members of his family out of the Houston area, and while he survived, the others in the car could unfortunately not escape in time.

The other relatives in the car, who tragically passed away, were reportedly the grandparents and their four grandchildren. The kids ranged in ages from only 6 years old to 16 years old.

Later, it was discovered that the family of 6 were relatives of late singer Selena Quintanilla, the famous Mexican-American singer who was shot and killed at only 23 years old. Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, made the announcement via Facebook.

He stated, “The family that drowned in Houston, Texas were related to me. Manuel Saldivar and his wife Velia and 4 of their grandkids left their flooded house to go somewhere where there was safety...Manuel’s mother Carolina was my father’s 1st cousin. My condolences to their family.”

He ended with quoting 2 Corinthians 1:3, “Praised by the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ the father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort.”

Please keep this family in your prayers. Sadly, another destructive hurricane is expected to hit the United States. The Florida Governor recently announced the state’s next action after declaring a state of emergency.
