The Obama Administration just admitted that they lied, although they didn't actually come out and say they told a fib. According to Bloomberg, the White House has insisted that $400 million in cash delivered to Iran on the exact same day that four Americans were released had absolutely nothing to do with each other.
"We were completely open with everybody about it, and it’s interesting to me that this suddenly became a story again," Obama had argued. "We do not pay ransom for hostages."
Instead, they said the $400 million was just partial payment on a past debt, and it had been in the works long before the hostage crisis. But now they're telling a different story.
According to Associated Press, the U.S. State Department has actually admitted that the cash payment was necessary for the release of the American prisoners. A department spokesman said the transactions were separate but that the U.S. didn't deliver the money until the plane taking the hostages away from Iran was "wheels up," according to Townhall.
Idaho pastor Saeed Abedini was the most well known of the hostages released.
While America is grateful to have the hostages home, many people are concerned about the U.S. breaking its own policy of not negotiating with terrorist. They're also concerned with the fact that we're giving a huge amount of money to the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism.
On top of that, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad have recently confirmed that they are being primarily funded by Iran, according to Breitbart. In other words, not only is our $400 million de factor hostage ransom going to someone who supports our enemies, but it's also funding the greatest enemies of our ally Israel.
