After Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan announced he was withholding his support for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump last week, Trump surrogate Sarah Palin came out swinging today.
According to Vanity Fair, Palin likened Ryan to former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor who lost his seat a couple years ago, saying, “I think Paul Ryan is soon to be Cantored, as in Eric Cantor. His political career is over, but for a miracle, because he has so disrespected the will of the people and yeah, as the leader of the G.O.P., the convention certainly, he is to remain neutral, and for him to already come out and say who he will not support, was not a wise decision of his.”
Palin then endorsed Ryan's Republican rival, Paul Nehlen, and said she'll do everything she can to help him unseat Ryan.
Trump also fired back at Ryan last week but said he has no involvement in Palin's words on this today. He is planning to meet with Ryan on Thursday to hash things out. However, as Vanity Fair pointed out, even if Trump and Ryan don't come to an agreement, it may not hurt Trump at all because it will bolster his anti-establishment image.
