In a surprise for many voters who prefer Texas senator Ted Cruz or Florida Senator Marco Rubio over real estate mogul Donald Trump, Trump gave them both a thrashing at the polling booths in the South Carolina primary with 32.5% of the vote over Rubio's 22.5% and Cruz' 22.3%.
In his talk show today, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh explained why Trump continues to lead the pack by a wide margin despite losing to Cruz in Iowa.
"What is one of the things you have to do to succeed in politics?" Rush asked rhetorically. "You have to draw people. You have to make a connection with people."
Rush points out that the Republican establishment believes Trump is inexperienced and doesn't know what he's doing, but Rush thinks nothing is further from the truth.
For politicians who are running for president, Rush says, "You have professional lobbyists. You have professional suck-ups. You're inside the Beltway and you've got the best."
But here comes Trump, who Rush says, "has a better understanding of what has to be done to draw a crowd and to hold the crowd and to expand the crowd than the political professionals. Here comes a guy, a reality TV host carnival barker, and he's running rings around [the Republican] field."
Reminder: The Nevada Republican Caucus is tomorrow, Feb. 23.
Do you agree with Rush's analysis?
