It was the joke heard around the nation. President Trump, during an event honoring Navajo Code Talkers, cracked an oft-told “Pocahontas’ joke about Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and the mainstream media went ballistic.
Talking to the code talkers after their own president gave an incredible speech, Trump said, “I just wanted to thank you, because you’re very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her ‘Pocahontas.’”
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has long been jokingly referred to as “Pocahontas” after she claimed back in 2012 that she was part Cherokee and identified closely with other American Indians and their history. The problem is, Warren is — at most — 1/32nd Indian, according to CNN. Even that tiny amount of DNA connection is in doubt.
According to Fox News, she used her claim of Indian ancestry to get a job at Harvard Law School back in 1996. The Harvard Crimson at the time touted Warren as a Native American in a piece about the otherwise lack of diversity in the school’s faculty.
On his radio talk show today, conservative host Rush Limbaugh played numerous audio clips of mainstream news hosts using words like “racist” and “racial slur” to describe Trump’s joke. For CNN’s Van Jones, it was if Trump had called former President Obama the N-word.
“If he’s not a racist, and if those comments are not racist, then the term has no meaning at all,” Jones declared.
Rush believes the media easily fell for Trump’s bait, and that the president played them “like a Stradivarius” by telling that particular joke at that particular time.
“This latest quote/unquote ‘outrage’ from Trump is a perfect example of how he plays the media, how he knows exactly what to do and how to do it to own their attention and airtime,” Rush explained. “He says things that he knows will drive them crazy. He says things over and over that he knows will drive them insane, and then when they go insane, he doubles down on it and drives them even crazier.”
“Trump knows what he did,” Rush continued. “He did it because he intended to do it; he wanted this reaction. He’s not in the White House sitting around with his associates and his advisory thinking that they stepped in it or they made a mistake and trying to figure out a way out of it. They’re getting a good laugh out of it.”
But how exactly does this strategy of Trump’s work? Because it’s reminding the public that Warren is a fraud, Rush explained. Warren is one of the Democrats being considered for a run against Trump in the next three years even though she’s insisted she’s not interested, according to Politico.
Do you agree with Rush? In related news, here are the incredible things that happened at the Navajo Code Talkers event that the mainstream media is ignoring in order to attack Trump.
