Runners participating in a 10-mile run in Colorado Springs, Colorado got an interesting surprise as they headed towards the finish line. The race, ‘Garden of the Gods Ten Mile Run’, took place at Garden of the Gods Park, which is a famous National Natural Landmark.
One runner, Donald Sanborn, shared photos of the racer’s ‘unexpected competitor’, reports Fox News. The racers were accompanied by a small, brown bear. See photos below.
Sanborn jokes, "Why did the bear cross the road? To scare the runners and make me lose precious time in the middle of a race!" He mentioned to AP that this is the first time he saw a bear during a race, but has seen other animals.
Others were also amazed by the bear making an appearance. Many social media users reacted to Sanborn's Facebook post.
“TOO funny for words! Thank GOD NO one got hurt!”
“Seems like that would be an incentive to run faster.”
“I had no idea this happened!! That is scary and awesome!”
What would you do if you saw a bear at a race?
