Patti Davis, daughter of former president Ronald Reagan, posted a statement against Donald Trump on Monday, March 6th.
Patti discussed the political disagreements she had with her father growing up as she began to develop her interest in politics and our country, especially after the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Davis wrote, “As I got older, I came to respect his patriotism, even though I disagreed in large part with his politics...I never teared up at any of America’s well known anthems, or at the sight of the flag [like her father did]. That changed on 9/11...I wept for the people who had gone to work on that clear blue day, or boarded a plane, never thinking that such horror could visit us here in the land of the free.”
She struggled with the love and pain she felt for America after many had been affected on September 11th, while at the same time, Reagan was dealing with Alzheimer's.
Davis compared her broken feelings on 9/11 to her feelings after Trump was inaugurated. She also claimed our country is now in ‘tyranny’, which seemed far-fetched.
“Since January 20th, that same place inside me has brought me to tears on more than one occasion. It’s filled me with a dread of what is to come, and what we might lose.”
This isn’t the first time Davis publicly went anti-Trump.
Since Trump’s inauguration, Davis wrote many tweets regarding her negative opinions towards Trump's administration.
What do you think of her criticism towards President Trump and the White House? Do you agree with her claim of 'tyranny' and 'dictatorship'?
