Republican Candidates All Over The Field On THIS Question

Pope Francis had everyone talking yesterday with his comments yesterday that Donald Trump is not a Christian because he wants to build a wall on the U.S-Mexico border.

The Catholic pontiff said in reference to Trump, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel.”

Trump quickly fired back, calling the pope's remarks "disgraceful."

The five Republican candidates were quickly put under the spotlight for their take on it. A couple gave definitive answers, while others appeared to squirm.

Here's what they said:
JOHN KASICH: "First of all, I’m pro-Pope, okay? He is the essence of humility and has opened the walls and doors of the church to lots of people who didn’t understand it. We have a right to build a wall but there are too many walls between us. We need bridges between us if we’re going to fix the problems in Washington because all they do is have walls."
JEB BUSH: "I always get in trouble when the Pope says things because I’m a Catholic. I’m informed by my faith and he’s an inspirational leader of my church. But I don’t question people’s Christianity. That’s a relationship they have with their Lord and Savior and themselves. I don’t think it’s appropriate to question Donald Trump’s faith.
BEN CARSON: "As far as the Pope is concerned, he like anybody else in the world, is entitled to his opinion. I would not weigh in on deciding whether Donald Trump is a Christian or not. I would not build a wall. I would use a multi-layer fence with an asphalt road in between. Of course we need to have a barrier. Of course we do need to have sovereignty for our country. I don't think that has anything to with Christianity or anything else."
MARCO RUBIO: "As a Roman catholic, [Pope Francis is] a head of the church and successor of Peter, I believe, and tremendous respect and admiration for him and haven't seen the statement, but I'm an elected official of the United States of America and the federal government and our number one obligation is to keep people safe and our immigration system is a part of that."
TED CRUZ: “Listen, that’s between Donald and the pope. I’m not going to get in the middle of that. I’ll leave it to the two of them to work it out.”
