Numerous media outlets are picking up a story from New York Magazine claiming that Bill O’Reilly of Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” is getting the axe this week.
According to unnamed sources close to New York writer Gabriel Sherman, Fox News executives may announce O’Reilly’s firing before he gets back from his vacation on Monday.
“The O’Reilly Factor” is America’s highest-rated cable news show, but O’Reilly himself has faced sexual harassment allegations.
The unnamed sources also say that O’Reilly may not even get a final show to say goodbye to his audience. Tucker Carlson, Dana Perino, and Eric Bolling have been reportedly named as possible replacements.
None of this has been confirmed by official sources, but media outlets are reporting it far and wide.
Media superstar Matt Drudge sent an ominous tweet, according to The Hill, writing, “O'Reilly has had tremendous run. Very few in the business get to decide when and how things end. Media is most brutal of all industries….”
The Hill noted that over 90 companies have pulled their advertising from “The O’Reilly Factor.”
