The Obama administration’s cold stance towards Israel has continued to increase the divide in the once solid alliance between the United States and Israel.
The relationship with America’s strongest ally is now so shaky that according to Reuters, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected to even meet with Obama.
The White house had extended an invitation to Netanyahu several weeks ago. “We were looking forward to hosting the bilateral meeting,” a White House spokesman said. “And we were surprised to learn first via media reports that the prime minister, rather than accept our invitation, opted to cancel his visit.”
It is increasingly unlikely that Obama and prime minister Netanyahu will meet again before the next election. It will likely be up to the next president to repair the relationship with Israel and rebuild the alliance.
